WSK EURO SERIES KFJ - ROUND 1

LIGHTNING-QUICK LANDO BEGINS EURO SERIES CAMPAIGN WITH A BRILLIANT WIN.

ADD Motorsports driver Lando Norris put on a dominant display as he began his WSK Euro Series campaign at La Conca with a brilliant win.

The 13-year-old Glastonbury racer took maximum points over the weekend in which he won nearly every race in the KFJ class event in Italy.

And after coming second to Lorandi Alessio in the first round of the WSK Master Series last month, the victory was even sweeter with their places reversed this time round.

A beaming Lando said: “We were really fast all weekend. It was a grippy track and it helped me a lot.

“It felt good to beat Alessio, but it was more important to get maximum points as it puts me in a great position for the rest of the series. I really enjoyed it out there, everything fell into place and it feels great to get the first win of the season.”

Lando rarely put a foot wrong at La Conca, winning his qualifying rounds before doing the same in the Super Pole on Friday. The teen then followed this by winning three out of four of his heats a day later.

Lando then carried this impressive form into the final day, first in the pre-final and then in the all-important main final.

Although Lando began the final quickly, a crash between two other drivers on the third lap saw him pick up some rubber and glass on his tyres that slowed down his progress and put him back to ninth.

But by the seventh lap, when the rubbish had fallen clear, he had managed to pull himself back to third. Amazingly, with two laps to go Lando had taken first place and had a three-and-a-half second gap on his nearest rival. There he stayed before claiming another brilliant victory – that sets himself up perfectly for the rest of the series.

He added: “I was the first kart to go through the debris caused by the crash and it really slowed me down. Everyone was getting past me for a few laps. But as soon as I started getting my speed up again I was getting past two drivers nearly every lap until I saw a gap on the inside to overtake the two leading drivers.

“As soon as I did that I got a good lead and then it was just about making sure I didn’t crash or do anything silly to stop me winning.”

The important first season victory now sets Lando up nicely.

He added: “I’ve been feeling good and driving well. I think a lot of other drivers will be looking at me closely now and trying their hardest to beat me, so I’ll have to keep driving at the top of my game to keep winning!”
