CIK FIA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS KFJ - ROUND 1

CRASH PUTS BRAKES ON LANDO’S WORLD TITLE HOPES

ADD Motorsports driver Lando Norris was left to rue his bad luck after a crash in the final of the World KFJ Championship dented his title hopes.

The Glastonbury racer was left with a bent axle after being hit in Sarno, leaving him unable to reach the speeds heknew he had in him.

But he refused to be too down-heartened, knowing there’s another chance to impress in the final round in Bahrain.

He said: “It’s really disappointing, the final didn’t go my way.

“I was hit into the barriers and just when I was getting back into it, a crash in front of me spun me and pretty much ended my chances of getting a good place.

“But anything can happen in Bahrain, it’s going to be tough, but I’m hoping for a Top 5 still.”

Although Lando didn’t reach the speeds of his earlier warm-up, he was second in his group and 7th overall in qualifying and started third in his first heat, finishing where he started.

He then finished sixth in Heat 2 and 12th in Heat 3 after being clipped and sent into a spin.

But he got himself into a good position by finishing 3rd and 4th in the next two heats.

He began the pre-final in 3rd and although not showing his best form was happy with a third place finish.

He started the final in fifth but was hit into the barriers early on that put him a few seconds behind the rest.

But just as he was getting back into the race a crash in front of him spilled out and hit him again, leaving him with a bent axle and leaving him ending the weekend in 22nd.

He added: “I managed to get some good lap times even though I had the bent axle but had lost too much ground.

“I needed to get in the Top 15 for appoint so it wasn’t a good weekend really, but we’ll just have to see what happens in the next round now.
